Is this payback for opposing "The Chosen One"?

From the article:

In a move some fear is a reprisal for opposing President Obama's health care plan, Democrats sent 52 letters to health insurers requesting financial records for a House committee's investigation.

Reps. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and Bart Stupak, D-Mich., sent a letter warning health insurers that the House Energy and Commerce Committee is "examining executive compensation and other business practices of the health industry."

As if anyone in the health care industry could be even remotely as corrupt and illegal as congress in regards to just social security. The thought of congressmen "examining executive compensation and other business practices" of ANY industry is so bizarre and off the wall that it sounds like something from a Stephen Wright skit.

Note to Waxman and Stupak: People in glass houses should not throw stones.

I would trust the executives in industry before I would trust congress.

From the article:

Waxman, chairman of the committee, and Stupak, chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee did not inform their Republican counterparts of their plans.

No kidding. With a plan that stupid you are well advised to keep it under wraps for as long as possible.

More:

Health insurers have until Sept. 4 to provide Congress a detailed list of every employee who made over a $1 million dollars a year between 2003 and 2008. Democrats also want documents about conferences and any events held off company property as well as the types of transportation, lodging, food, entertainment and even gifts exchanged.

This, when congressmen and government buearocrats are spending huge amounts of our money traveling around, goofing off, and going to fancy motels with their entire families to watch the dancers.

I think these companies should tell congress to go audit itself.

I hope the execs have the stone to tell the congress critters to 'shove it' - this is private information and none of your GD business. Read the annual report, but that's all you get.

They won't, of course. They'll cave, and then be dragged in front of the Court Of Public Opinion and be shown as greedy bastards that make their money off of grandma's rejected hip replacement surgery.

We all know how that will end...

The Other Mike S., I'm afraid that they'll start coming out in public in support of socialized medicine to avoid what you are talking about.
